Dr. Kamil received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), India, in 1967, a M.S. degree in Engineering from M.I.T, in 1969, and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, in 1973. After his Bachelor’s degree from AMU, he taught as a Lecturer in the College of Engineering at AMU. After his Ph.D., he taught at I.I.T. Delhi as an Assistant Professor and later at Stanford University as a Consulting Professor of Engineering. Dr. Kamil has over twenty five (25) years of experience in the Software Industry. His original area of expertise was in the MCAE software. While teaching at Stanford University after his Ph.D., he founded Engineering Decision Analysis Company (EDAC), which was acquired by a large company. Since then, he has been a founder or co-founder of other companies in the MCAE and enterprise software areas, which have been acquired by larger companies. He founded Hitek Venture Partners in 1995 to invest in early stage companies in the telecommunications, enterprise software and internet infrastructure software areas. Currently, he has a portfolio of over forty (40) companies. Some recent examples of the companies include SOMA Networks, Sensys Instruments, Vector Software, TransData, Novasonics, IP Unity, Tradescape, Cubus, iSpring, Microbar, CoRelation, Neurobiological Sciences, Knowledge Revolution, Muse Communications, Future Smart and Manystreams. He is on the Board of Directors of five of these companies. Several past companies in the portfolio have been acquired or have gone through an IPO. Dr. Kamil has over fifty publications in technical and trade Journals to his credit. He is a winner of John. F. Lincoln Foundation award for "outstanding achievement in engineering design". He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), ASVC (Asia-Silicon Valley Connection), and a member of the Band of Angels. He is also actively involved in charity activities through his "Hasan Family Foundation" in US and the Nurul Hasan Educational Foundation in India. He and his wife, Talat Hasan, have endowed a chair in Indian classical music at the University of California in Santa Cruz through “Hasan Family Foundation”. The foundation is also actively involved in providing funding to local schools, and scholarships and financial assistance to first year students from India at US universities. Through the “Nurul Hasan Educational Foundation” in India, Kamil and Talat are providing scholarships for students from under-privileged sections of India at several major Indian Universities, including AMU, Jamia Milia, Jamia Hamdard and JNU. In addition, the Foundation setup a Computer and Vocational Training Center in Delhi. |
