Aligarh Modern School is serving the educational needs of the under privileged students, mostly first generation learners who live around AMU campus and adjoining rural areas, for many years. It currently has 450 students (from Grade 1-10). Many of the students are unable to pay the school fee (~Rs 450/month) and are supported by donations. AEEF has sponsored 50 students (Rs 5400/student/year, total amount Rs 2,72,000 already deposited in school's account) at this school for the academic year 2010-2011. An initial commitment is made for one year, but the recipients of the scholarship are given to understand that they will be supported up to 10th grade as long as they perform well, still in need of financial assistance and the funds are available at AEEF.

"Support for exceptional students, particularly those with financial need and a drive to succeed, can have a profoundly positive effect on society," said Mr. Umar Farooq, president of AEEF. "These students have overcome tremendous obstacles, and we are proud to help them continue their education and prepare them to make valuable contributions to the society they live in."

The scholarship program is generously supported by alumni of Aligarh Muslim University and its friends and private foundations. Donations to AEEF are tax deductible in USA as allowable under the law.  (Tax ID # 20-1000034)

The Aligarh Education Endowment Fund (AEEF) is a charitable organization founded by AMU alumni and well wishers in 2005 as a non-profit, secular, non-partisan, and non-political organization, under Section 501(c) (3) of IRS, to serve the educational needs of the underprivileged communities in India. AEEF is funding a broad variety of educational projects, ranging from school to post-graduate levels, which will accelerate the flow of the young generation into the economic mainstream.
